Since the parents were leaving to go out, the dad told the woman that after she put the children down, she should go down to the basement, watch TV there, and not go wandering around the house.
Once the children are asleep, the woman retires into the basement area to watch TV. However, she can't focus on her show because in the corner of this room is a life-size clown statue grinning at her. She eventually decides to drape a blanket over the statue so that she can dismiss it.
After some time she can't stand taking a look at the clown statue's oversize feet sticking out from beneath the blanket.
